10 to 15 m high growing deciduous tree, often with a short stem. Originating from deciduous forests in India, Burma and
Sri Lanka and well known as a medicinal plant and for the production of shellac. Nowadays the tree is often planted for its beautiful
red, orange or sometimes yellow flowers which have a diameter of 3.0 to 5.0 cm and are formed in the typical way of this plant
family.
The rare yellow form of this ornamental tree is available as smaller grafted plants depending on the season.
