Gardenia jasminoides - Rubiaceae
The above picture shows a smaller cultivar of Gardenia jasminoides which can reach a height
of 3' to 4' ( 90 cm to 1.20 m ).
Gardenias should be planted in full sun to light shade and prefer an acid soil rich in organic
material. The highly fragrant flowers will only appear if temperatures are suitable.
( temperatures from 60 degrees to 70 degrees Fahrenheit seem to be ideal )
Gardenias are evergreen shrubs originating from China and Japan and have been in cultivation
for hundreds of years for their beautiful flowers.
