Curcuma domestica - Curcuma longa - Turmeric  ( Zingiberaceae )

                Being a common spice used in curry dishes Curcuma domestica is also a nice

                ornamental plant that will grow up to 1m ( 3.5') high in slight shade to medium shade.

                Light green leaves are broad and about 50 cm long.

                Beautiful inflorescence with white bracts which keep small yellow flowers.

                The rhizomes of this plant contain yellow colored Curcumin which can also be used for

                dying and apart from the spicy rhizomes even the leaves and flowers are eaten as a vegetable

                in Asia.
